If you're planning a trip to Mexico, Chiapas should be on your radar, especially if you're a fan of stunning waterfalls. Let me guide you through some must-see spots, with a special bonus at the end that'll make your trip unforgettable!
๐ง Agua Azul - The Cascading Wonder
Kick off your adventure from San Cristobal de las Casas or Palenque, and get ready to be amazed by the stunning cascades of Agua Azul. Whether you hop on a public bus, join a tour, or my personal favorite, take a colectivo, you're in for a treat. The entry fee is 60+60 MXN, covering both community and general access.
Agua Azul is a bustling hub with plenty of food stands and restaurants to satisfy your cravings. But beware, it can get quite crowded, and there are more souvenir stands than you can count. Here's my tip: don't just snap pics at the first cascade! Hike all the way up for the best viewpoints and the ultimate swimming spot. ๐ When the water's a beautiful blue during the dry season, I'd rate it a 7/10.
๐ง Misol-Ha - The Hollywood Star
This waterfall might look familiar if you're a Schwarzenegger fanโit made its debut in "Predator"! With an entry fee of 50+50 MXN, you can enjoy swimming here, but only with a life jacket. Unlike Agua Azul, there are no souvenir stands, and just one restaurant to grab a bite.
The must-do here is to walk behind the waterfall and explore the cave filled with bats. ๐ฆ Just be careful and wear good flip-flops, as the stones are slippery. The experience of walking behind this "curtain" is truly unique, earning it an 8/9 in my book.
๐ง๐ง Bonus: Roberto Barrios - The Hidden Gem
If you're looking to escape the crowds, Roberto Barrios is your spot. Off the beaten path, it offers a more secluded experience with fewer tourists. Its size and remoteness give it a solid 9/10 in my personal rating.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Extra Bonus: Welib Ha - The Hidden Paradise (My Favorite)
Welib Ha is a lesser-known waterfall that promises tranquility and untouched beauty. It's so remote, Iโve never seen any tourists there, just some wild spider monkeys swinging through the trees. It gets a perfect 10/10 from me for its serenity and pristine environment.
